Credit-Hour System

The academic system of study at the University of Kalamoon is based on credit hours. A credit hour normally represents one theoretical hour a week, or two practical hours weekly within one academic semester.
The study spans over two semesters; the first consists of 16 weeks, and the second consists of 16 weeks, in addition to an optional Summer Semester lasting 8 weeks. Each of the two semesters comprises a number of credit hours ranging between 12-20, while the Summer Semester consists of eight credit hours. The required credit hours and years of study of each faculty are shown below.

New students are admitted in the First Semester (Fall), and the 2nd Semester (Spring). No new students are admitted in the Summer Semester, except for prerequisite courses, not related to students’ academic majors.
Admission of Transferred Students

Based on the University of Kalamoon’s internal regulations, as well as on the decision made by its Council and the Council of the Ministry of Higher Education, students transferring from another university may be admitted, provided that their transcripts of records match the major they are transferring to, and that said major is taught at the University. Postponement of Study

Postponement of study at the University according to the following:
1 - A student may apply for a postponement of his study at the university before the start of the semester for which he wishes to be postponed if the applicant has presented convincing reasons for both the concerned authority and the College Board for a period of not more than four semesters in sequence or intermittent.
2 – The student who exceeds the sum of his absence without excuse (15%) of the scheduled hours for the semester, shall be deprived of the exam in the semester in question and shall be marked (Z).
3 – A newly-registered or transferred student is not allowed to postpone the study, but after a semester of joining the faculty.
4 – The postponement period is not considered part of the maximum period of study required to obtain a degree.
5 - The head of the concerned department is officially acknowledged of the postponement.

Based on the internal regulations of the University as well as on directions of the Syrian Ministry of Higher Education, a student is required to attend at least 85% of the total hours in every course. A student not meeting the requirement faces dismissal from that course rendering him unable to take the exam in that course, i.e. barred

Based on the internal regulation of the Private University of Kalamoon, a student is irrevocably expelled from the faculty or the University in the following situations:
• When a student is unable to raise his/her accumulative GPA to (4/2) C or higher before the expiry of the final warning.
• A student is irrevocably expelled from the University for disciplinary reasons such as committing an immoral act, or professional infractions, based on the decision of the disciplinary committee. The University Council has the right to reconsider the decision in regards to the student’s expulsion after the lapse of a two-year period of the issue of such decision.
