Biotechnology and its Applications in the Medical Fields
Under the patronage of the President of the University of Qalamoon, Dr. Mohammed Adel Jawad, and in cooperation with the General Authority for Biotechnology, Al-Fares Supplies and Dental Materials Company, the University of Qalamoon organized the first joint scientific day entitled: “Biotechnology and its Applications in the Medical Fields.”
Dr. Mohammed Adel Jawad opened the scientific day by welcoming the attendees, praising the efforts of those responsible for this day, and hoping that we will benefit from the scientific achievements in this field.
Dr. Nizar Issa, Director of the Authority, thanked the university for holding this day, considering it a qualitative opportunity to open new horizons for cooperation and a turning point in the scientific process, noting its importance for researchers and students alike.

The session’s research centered on Stem cell extraction and its uses in medical fields

The second session centered on modern and promising methods in the treatment of some types of cancers, and the applications of molecular biotechnology in the field of medicinal plants and microbiology.
This was in the presence of a number of professors, administrators and students.
At the end of the first joint scientific day, recommendations were made to help achieve more scientific achievements and move forward on the path of development, including:
- Communicating with the concerned authorities to find ethical frameworks for the use of stem cells in treatment.
- Creating a legislative and legal environment for the widespread use of stem cells in medical treatments in Syria.
- Activating networking between public and private universities and research bodies through workshops, conferences, training courses and other activities.
- Establishing a research incubator between the University of Qalamoon and the General Authority for Biotechnology.
- Increasing interest in scientific research and supporting it more, whether for student or faculty research, by increasing the financial support allocated in the university’s annual budget.
- Establishing a laboratory for molecular cellular studies at the university.
- Working on following up the recommendations and implementing them with the concerned authorities.
