Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Information Security

As part of the Monday Scientific and Cultural Lectures series, and based on the fact that technology has become the backbone of modern life and a daily necessity for every individual, Dr. Riad Daher presented his lecture entitled “Artificial Intelligence(AI) and Information Security.” He started by discussing artificial intelligence from its inception, considering John McCarthy as the pioneer of artificial intelligence and the first to use the term. He also mentioned one of the most important founders of artificial intelligence programming, “Mustafa Suleiman”, who is of Syrian origin. Then he highlighted the basic components of artificial intelligence, its working method, its models and classifications, considering it a double-edged sword and a powerful tool. He also clarified that (AI) is not a magic solution, especially with regard to protecting our information, explaining that information security cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence limiting its role to merely enhancing protection.

At the end of the lecture, Dr. Sundus Al-Yassin, Vice President for Academic Affairs, proposed holding workshops and courses to spread the culture of artificial intelligence, with the goal of educating and benefiting ordinary, non-specialized users. The event was attended by Dr. Sundus Al-Yassin, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ihsan Al-Najjar, Dean of the College of Engineering, and a number of professors, administrators, and students. The event was held in the small auditorium on Monday, March 21 April 2025.

 

Language between Medicine and Literary Creativity

As a part of the Monday Scientific and Cultural Lectures series, in a rich research carried on the relationship between medicine and literature, Dr. Lama Quatnaji and Mr. Nizar Falouh presented their lecture “Arabic Language between Medicine and Literary Creativity”;

In the presence of the University President, Dr. Muhammad Adel Jawad, his deputies for Academic Affairs and Administrative Affairs, a number of deans, professors, and a group of administrative staff and university students, Dr. Lama started from the idea that medicine and literature are two elements that blend in one crucible despite their vast differences. She expressed her admiration for the importance and brilliance of the Syrian doctor in particular, and Arab doctors in general. She touched on ancient scholars who were doctors and writers at the same time, foremost among them “Ibn Sina” who linked medicine to literature, and contemporary writers such as “Abdul Salam Al-Ajili’, the poet and doctor.” Dr. Quatnaji clarified that many poets and writers used expressions of physical pain to refer to psychological pain, considering that both medicine and literature treat human pain. Then, Dr. Nizar Falouh continued talking about “linguistic displacement” and explained its types and its ability to express, noting that “Al-Jahiz” was the first to point it out.Dr. Muhammad Adel Jawad concluded by shedding the light on the richness and beauty of our Arabic language. He explained how literature heals and treats the soul, just as medicine heals the body. To wrap up the lecture, Dr. Jawad, Dr. Lama and Ms. Nizar answered some questions and inquiries. The lecture took place on Monday, April 7, 2025, the Small Auditorium.

Modern Dentistry Scientific Day

In cooperation between the Private University of Kalamoon and the Dental Doctors Syndicate  Damascus branch, the University of Kalamoon observed the “Modern Dentistry Scientific Day” on Tuesday 29-03-2022.

Under the patronage of Dr. Said Younes, a Modern Dentistry Scientific Day was held by the faculty of dentistry  and assisted by Dr. Said Younes, President of the University of Kalamoon; Dr. Ghassan Makhoul Chair of the Damascus branch of Dentists’ Syndicate, Vice Presidents of the University of Kalamoon, members of the Dentists’ Syndicate, Faculty Deans and dentistry students  attended. The Modern Dentistry Scientific Day was inaugurated by a minute of Silence in tribute to the nation’s martyrs, followed Syrian Anthem, and the University of Kalamoon Anthem.

Speeches by Dr. Omar Adel, dean of the faculty of dentistry; Dr. Ilian Abu Samra, head of the scientific committee at the Damascus branch of dentists’ syndicate; Dr. Ghassan Makhoul chair of the Damascus branch of the dentists’ syndicate; Dr. Said Younes, president of the University of Kalamoon.

Dr. Makhoul was awarded the Modern Dentistry Scientific Day Shield by DR. Younes who was awarded the syndicate’s shield in recognition of mutual appreciation and cooperation.

More shields were awarded to Dr. Omar Abboud, director of  Abboud Dental Supplies and sponsor of the day, and Dr. Omar Kashto director of Kashto Dental Supplies.

The first session was led by Dr. Omar Adel and Dr. Fidaa Hussamo. The session included a lecture on “Cosmetic Dentistry” by Dr. Arwa Al-Khaire, dean of the faculty of dentistry at the Syrian Private University; a lecture on “preventive and intervention orthodontics at a general practice” by Dr. Mohammad Younes Hujair of Damascus University; a lecture on “preparation of curved canals in root canal treatment” by Dr. Kinda Layous of Damascus University; and the final lecture was on “lingual orthodontics by digitally manufactured braces” by Dr. Fadi Joudeh, head of the orthodontics department at the faculty of dentistry of the University of Kalamoon.

The second session ensued lead by Dr. Issa Wahbeh and Dr. Khaled Hamed in which the following lectures were presented.

The first lecture was on “ A Statistical Evaluation of the Results of the Diagnosis and Treatment of the Chewing System” by Dr. Omar Adel.

The second lecture was on “Cosmetic Dentistry between Patient Desire and Ethical Responsibility of the Dentist” by DR. Ilian Abu Samra.

The third lecture was on “Key Factors of Success of Dental Surgery in Prosthodontics Implants” by Dr. Muhannad Hijazi, vice dean of the faculty of dentistry at the University of Kalamoon.

The Fourth lecture was on “Concurrent Concepts in Prosthodontics Imprints over Implants” by Dr. Maher Kasabeh of the University of Kalamoon.

The fifth lecture was on “Soft Tissue Grafts” by Dr. Tareq Qassem of the Maxillofacial surgery department of Damascus University.

A closing discussion of the papers presented during the day took place with recommendations focused on enhancing partnerships and cooperation between the faculty of dentistry and the  dentists’ syndicate for the advancement of dental care. Later, shields
