As part of the Monday Scientific and Cultural Lectures series, and in line with ongoing efforts to enhance environmental awareness amid growing climate risks, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Sebai, Director of Quality and faculty member at the College of Civil and Architectural Engineering, delivered a lecture titled “Climate Change and Its Impact on Water Resources: Case Study of Al-Tanour Spring.”
The lecture addressed key global challenges resulting from climate change and water resource depletion, with particular focus on their severe impact on the local region. Dr. Al-Sebai highlighted the critical situation of Al-Tanour Spring—the main water source for Homs Governorate—where water levels have dropped to their lowest in years.
He emphasized the urgency of implementing immediate solutions to secure short-term water supplies, while underscoring the necessity for a comprehensive strategic plan for short, medium, and long-term water resource management. The lecture also advocated for sustainable solutions to maintain water security and foster community collaboration in addressing drought and pollution effects.

As part of its ongoing commitment to enhancing academic advising and elevating institutional performance, the University of Kalamoon conducted a competency examination in academic guidance, with participation from faculty staff members across various colleges.
The examination followed a comprehensive series of theoretical and practical training sessions designed to strengthen advising skills and improve communication with students.
Supervised by Dr. Nehad Haidar, Vice President for Administrative and Student Affairs, and Dr. Khaled Al-Mikdad, University Academic Advisor, the assessment evaluated participants’ performance against precise professional standards aligned with effective guidance practices. Participants were also oriented toward best practices in academic planning and providing holistic student support—both academically and psychologically.
This initiative forms part of the University’s broader plan to develop academic guidance services, aiming to establish an integrated advising system that ensures quality academic direction and enhances students’ educational and developmental journey.

She emphasized the importance of setting clear objectives and highlighted how intrinsic motivation serves as the key driver for maintaining enthusiasm and pursuing success.
The lecture introduced several practical strategies for rediscovering passion in both personal and professional contexts, with special focus on overcoming daily challenges that affect motivation. Dr. Yasin concluded by presenting the “Achievement Motivation Map” as a tool for aligning goals with personal aspirations.
